The World Sambo Championship was held in Seoul (South Korea) for youth and juniors. The Croatian three-member team led by manager Goran Mrdalje and competitors Tena Šikić in the category up to 52 kg and Maja Blagojević in the weight class up to 64 kg returned home with as many as two gold medals.
After the impressive performance of the Croatian national team in Bucharest, the recently held National Samba Championship held on October 4 in Belišće, this is the biggest success of samba, which is a relatively young sport in Croatia.
The Croatian national team will perform at the world exhibition in November in Japan. This is also a tournament that will once again show the value of Croatian fighters. The Croatian Sambo Federation can now immodestly hope for new medals.
Sambo is a Soviet martial art, created by combining several traditional skills of the Caucasian and Siberian peoples. Russian martial art is still in its infancy in Croatia, but it has found its place on the Croatian sports scene, and the Croatian Sambo Federation is a member of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) and an associate member of the Croatian Olympic Committee.
Due to the exceptional commitment of the Croatian Sambo Federation, the Croatian metropolis will host the European Sambo Championship next year.
