Historic results and success of Croatia at the European Championship in Novi Sad (May 8-May 12)

Historic results of the Croatian national team in SAMBA at the recently concluded European Championship in Serbia in Novi Sad. The championship was held for all ages from May 8 to May 12, 2024. in Spens Arena in Novi Sad.
The Croatian national team achieved excellent, one might say historic results, exactly 15 years after the foundation of the association. In the senior competition, Croatia won 7 medals:

  • Patrik Sumpor (Combat SAMBO, -71 kg) 2nd place..
  • Lea Katarina Gobec (Sports SAMBO, -80 kg) 3rd place.
  • Tin Straža (Sports SAMBO, -88 kg) 3rd place.
  • Dorina Borilović (Combat SAMBO, -80 kg) 3rd place.
  • Dino-Dominic Sulfur ( Sports SAMBO, -79 kg ) 3rd place.
  • Luka Matošević (Combat SAMBO, -79 kg) 3rd place.
  • Dario Grgić (Combat SAMBO, +98 kg) 3rd place.

The biggest result was made by Luka Matošević, who is a junior but competed in the senior competition and won a bronze medal, an exceptional result. In the junior competition, Lucija Baričević won 3rd place in the category up to 59 kilograms.

At the European Championship, Croatia was under the leadership of Hrvoje Petranović, coach of the sports SAMBO team, and Dejan Gunjavić, coach of the Combat SAMBO team.

A total of 14 national team members appeared in the senior national team, and a total of 10 national team members played in the junior and younger junior national teams.

A total of 523 competitors from 29 countries of the European continent took part in the championship. In terms of number of medals, Croatia won 8th place in the overall competition. Croatia was also represented by two judges at the championship, Sana Višnjić and Josip Ivanišić, who did an excellent job and proved to be a constant at world and European competitions.
