The biggest and most difficult senior competition of the year for Sambo athletes has ended, and this time Croatia had its representatives at that event as well.
Dejan Gunjavić (82kg), Matija Radielović (90kg), and Dominik Sumpor (74kg) defended the colors of Lijepa naše this time in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, in the attractive Arena Armeec hall.
Both fighters in the “COMBAT SAMBO” discipline (Dejan and Matija) lost their first fight, the draw was extremely difficult, which is confirmed by the final result, as both were withdrawn to the rematch. On the second occasion, they sought confirmation for their hard work, in the form of a bronze medal. Unfortunately, both of our representatives did not stand on the podium. In the rematch, Dejan Gunjavić lost in the final itself, after three consecutive victories, thus securing a highly placed fifth (5th) place in the world championship.
After the first victory, Matija suffered a shoulder injury and was forced to surrender the match. He was finally ranked seventh (7th) in the category up to 90 kg.
Unlike Matija and Dejan, Dominik started superbly in the first fight in the “SPORTS SAMBO” discipline, with a quick victory by forcing the opponent to surrender (lever on his hand), but unfortunately he lost the next fight and thus ended his journey in the competition.
